“My DESIRE to do it IS GREATER than my fear.”

1/3/24

Dolly Parton’s quote, and the simplified version, “My DESIRE to do it IS GREATER than my fear.” has been on a sticky note in my sphere for the last three years. It travels with me nearly everywhere I go, tacked with old pieces of tape encompassed with glitter and dirt mixed together like Times Square, the day after New Year’s Eve. ✨

We use many tools as Peer Support Specialists to move and work through fear.

Some questions that can be helpful to ask yourself when working through fear are:

“What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?”

“Why do I want to do this task or set this goal?”

“What am I giving up by not expanding my comfort zone or by participating in negative self-talk?”

“If I was able to feel the fear and do it anyway, what would be the greatest benefits?”

What are the things you have found helpful to combat negative self-talk?

You are not alone. 💗
