“Shame dies when stories are told in safe spaces.” -Ann Voskamp

1/2/24

SHAME is where I grew up and had a permanent address.

When people asked, “Where is home?”, it usually involved a blank stare brought on by dissociation or an evidence board with different strings pinned in 42 different directions.

But, SHAME, is a place I’ve lived longer than anywhere else.

That was until I found others who had gone through similar situations and were actually talking about it.

Acknowledging it.

Naming it.

Embracing it.

Accepting it.

And, working through it.

This came in the form of searching for support groups, online sobriety groups, peer-to-peer courses provided by mental health associations, and following psychologists and peers I trusted on social media. I owe my life to others who were talking about what was helping and what wasn’t, in their various recovery journeys.

Where are the safe spaces you have found?

You are not alone. 💗
